Five Reasons to Pay Attention to WalletChat

WalletChat

WalletChat has integrated the Fuse Network blockchain. As a result, Fuse users can now utilize the WalletChat app to talk with Fuse and other EVM-compatible blockchain users. Importantly, dApp builders on Fuse can easily plug in WalletChat and offer free wallet-to-wallet messaging.

Making up 42% of all global web-based messages, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, and Telegram dominate the world of online conversation. However, these platforms don’t communicate with one another, while chat histories and contacts exist as siloed and non-transferable.

Web3 application WalletChat wants to solve this with a simple wallet-to-wallet chat application that lets you log in with a Metamask or similar blockchain wallet to instant message other people using an address or ENS name. No third-party identifiers are needed, and everything links back to the wallet. Users can also set up notifications to forward direct messages to a preferred email address.

For developers, it means plugging in a simple API or white-label message service to facilitate in-app messaging. At the same time, WalletChat users can enjoy free messaging and the ability to act in a more decentralized way.

WalletChat also enables the creation of communities based on proof-of-attendance protocol (POAP) non-fungible tokens distributed to users, who can then join community chats based on those NFTs.

The messaging functionality provided by WalletChat may be helpful in multiple contexts and is now available to dApp builders and users in the Fuse ecosystem. So let’s dive into five compelling reasons to pay attention to WalletChat.

NFT Trading

When users search for digital collectibles on marketplaces like Opensea or Magic Eden, the wallet address of the NFT owner is always present. However, there is no way to reach out to that person and start a conversation about a potential trade.

Using just their wallet address and WalletChat, you can send the person a message and see whether a trade is possible. At the same time, integrating WalletChat into an NFT marketplace like Artrific on Fuse Network can offer the community unique functionality and the ability to act peer-to-peer.

Wallet verification

Wallet verification is something that can occur from time to time. You can verify that someone owns a specific wallet. Right now, the best way of doing this is to get them to sign a message, which presents a poor user experience and is prone to fraud.

For example, Discord makes you do this whenever you wish to join gated chats inside a server, sometimes to people’s disappointment and at the high cost of signing a message that gives scammers control over your assets.

In WalletChat, a community manager could directly message all NFT holders an access code to their wallet. No contract signing is required, providing a much smoother and safer first point of contact.

Giveaways

You may be a community admin or influencer running incentivized giveaways. Unfortunately, having everyone complete an on-chain action, navigate to Discord, and provide a wallet address inside a shared channel is not a great experience. Using wallet-to-wallet messaging means users can communicate with the admin wallet directly inside WalletChat instead.

DAOs

You may be a small DAO running inside a Telegram group. It works, but you need a simple workaround to token-gate the group. At the same time, you may be a bigger DAO and keep thinking about how irritating it is that there is no connection between Discord and Snapshot. WalletChat can streamline users’ experience if they sign into these separate chat spaces with a single wallet.

Anonymity

Common practice means crypto natives and NFT collectors tend to operate behind pseudonymous identities, splitting their online personalities from their everyday lives. One of the most basic functions of WalletChat allows users to anonymously message someone without any link to an email, phone number, or another web 2.0 identifier.

WalletChat today

The current beta with wallet sign-in, direct messages, community chats, and a browser extension that makes it easy to join discussion rooms makes WalletChat worthwhile. Moreover, they have laid the foundation to explore various use cases in the wild. As a new project, WalletChat wants as much feedback as possible on current and potential use cases. Head to their discord to tell them directly. Also, check out the web app (still in beta!)

WalletChat has now integrated the Fuse Network blockchain on its platform. This means that Fuse users can now sign-in on the WalletChat web app or browser extension and start chatting with other Fuse users and users on other EVM-compatible blockchains. Project teams building on Fuse can now plug the messaging functionality offered by WalletChat into their dApps.
