Fuse Integrates Unstoppable Domains to Create a Decentralized Version of the Fuse website

The collaboration will enable Fuse to operate an easily accessible IPFS version of the official website using the Unstoppable Domains registry on Ethereum.

Decentralization enabled by consensus mechanisms and other features is a core feature of blockchain platforms like Fuse, however, people wishing to access them often still deal with centralized infrastructure, especially the DNS system and traditional websites. This could undermine decentralization as the central points of failure can be targeted by attackers in a number of ways.

The Fuse team takes the decentralization of all the core elements of the platform very seriously, thus we are excited by the collaboration with Unstoppable Domains which enables us to create a decentralized version of Fuse’s official website.

Enabling Decentralized Websites through IPFS

Unstoppable Domains is a platform that allows anyone to associate a human-readable domain to a blockchain address or a piece of content on the Interplanetary File System (IPFS) protocol. IPFS enables distributed storage of files by multiple independent nodes. Unlike the legacy Internet, files stored on IPFS are not indexed by arbitrarily chosen domain names managed by a centralized hierarchical system. Instead, their indexing and, thus, access to them (their IPFS address) is determined by their content.

Unstoppable Domains uses domain registry smart contracts on the Ethereum and Zilliqa blockchains to associate blockchain addresses and pieces of content on IPFS with unique .crypto and .zil domain names. The former functionality makes it easier to make crypto payments as users do not have to deal with complicated hexadecimal addresses.

How Fuse will Integrate Unstoppable Domains

The first step in the collaboration between Fuse and Unstoppable Domains involves the IPFS version of the Fuse website. The Fuse team has already created it and used the Unstoppable Domains registry on Ethereum to obtain the “http://fusenetwork.crypto” domain and associate it with the website.

The easiest way to access the Fuse website on IPFS from your Chrome browser is by using the Unstoppable extension for Google Chrome. Once the extension is added to Chrome, you will be able to access the Fuse website on IPFS by typing the address mentioned above. You can also learn how to update your browser’s DNS settings here to natively resolve to .crypto domains.

In the future, Fuse and Unstoppable Domains will explore further steps, including the Fuse wallet integration. This would help bolster the adoption of payments on Fuse by ordinary, non-crypto-savvy users.

About Unstoppable Domains

Unstoppable Domains is a San Francisco-based company building domains on blockchains. The company is backed by Draper Associates and Boost VC and has received grants from the Ethereum Foundation.

We are excited by this important collaboration and looking forward to bringing decentralized domains to the Fuse core products and the Fuse ecosystem.
