Seamless Key Management on Fuse with Torus Labs

Seasoned industry experts and enthusiasts understand that blockchain technology is built on the backbone of public and private-key cryptography.

These randomized strings of alphanumeric characters are what allow users to be identified and for transactions to be executed on blockchain networks. They are also part of what makes blockchain technology decentralized. Unlike the majority of applications that we use every day on the internet, with blockchain no centralized authority is able to access a user’s account without a private key.

The problem, however, is that private key management is one of the most critical issues slowing the adoption of blockchain technology.

Internet users who have become accustomed to web 2.0 applications featuring simple logins and passwords that can be renewed at any time with the click of a button, tend to struggle with the concept of having to write down and securely store their private keys.

One-click Login to Fuse Studio.

It is for this reason that Fuse is partnered with Torus in order to provide seamless key management to users of the Studio.

Experienced users are still given the option of using Metamask and other well-known wallets to access the studio. But, for the more common user, multiple social login options are made available thanks to our Torus integration, including Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, and many others for a one-click login experience.

Is it safe?

The simple answer is yes!

Torus is powered by distributed key generation. When a user uses a social login for the first time, the cryptographic keys are split and stored individually by multiple different nodes on the Torus network which is run by a large ecosystem of stakeholders. When a user returns, these same nodes look up their internal mapping in order to return the corresponding key share in order to reconstruct and enter it into the application to provide access.

As is stated in Torus’ documentation “This key is kept for the session and is not persisted in local storage, or for native apps, kept in memory for a session.”

Gateway to Mainstream Adoption

A growing number of non-technical people are visiting Fuse every month to test the Studio. Like many other leading brands in the space who have partnered with Torus including Kyber NetworkGoodDoollar, Augur, and 1inchExcahnge, we are sensitive to ensuring a smooth experience in line with our veiled crypto approach and our focus on providing products that appeal to the mainstream.

Following the success of this social login integration, we plan to roll our Torus to other Fuse applications including the mobile wallet and FuseSwap, our highly anticipated DEX which is undergoing beta testing.
